The ability to receive immediate response through social networking channels is one of the main perks of using social media. In the case of IGC, live updates from the events itself, delegates being able to locate their friends using Foursquare when the check-in at the venue or receive traffic updates on route to the venue via Twitter justifies the use of social networking tools to engage your target audiences. I think your strategies are customer-orientated and spot on. Great post!

Thanks for the feedback Jerome. Networking devices, such as the newest iPhone operating system that was just released (and subsequent notification systems), allows for very quick updates and interactions between users.

In large events such as the IGC, like Jerome said before using Foursquare is one way, and also live tweeting with a dedicated hashtag could be used. It seems to be a popular way nowadays for more people (even those who are not at the event) to connect with those who are there.

Great post, I agree 100% on the fact that we have become extremely impatient as a result of having all this information at our fingertips all the time. I mean it wasn’t long ago that we were happy to wait as our dial up modem connected to the internet, but now if our internet drops out for 5 minutes we become extremly frustrated.

Providing almost instantaneous feedback is extremely beneficial but companies need to be weary of a number of traps they may fall into. Whoever is on the end of the companies twitter account needs to ensure that any information they are giving out reflects the thoughts and feelings of the company they are representing – so user training is extremely important here. If one support person goes rogue and offers the wrong information on an upcoming event or product launch it could be disastrous for the company!
